Description

This ginger lemonade recipe is bright, refreshing, and full of fresh citrus flavor with a gentle kick from real ginger. It is the perfect homemade drink for spring gatherings, brunches, or warm afternoons with family and friends.


Ingredients

Scale

23 inches fresh ginger root, peeled and chopped into ½ inch pieces
1 cup sugar
1 ¼ cups water
1 ¼ cups fresh-squeezed lemon juice
3–4 cups cold water (to dilute)


Instructions

  1. Add the chopped ginger, sugar, and 1¼ cups of water to a saucepan over medium heat.

  2. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and stir until the sugar dissolves.

  3. Let the ginger mixture simmer for about 10 minutes so the ginger flavor infuses into the syrup.

  4. Remove from heat and allow the syrup to cool slightly.

  5. Strain the syrup through a fine mesh strainer to remove the ginger pieces.

  6. Pour the ginger syrup into a large pitcher.

  7. Add the fresh-squeezed lemon juice.

  8. Stir in 3–4 cups of cold water until the lemonade reaches your desired strength.

  9. Chill in the refrigerator and serve over ice.
